Essential Leprosy Services

Based at Mawlamyine Hospital this project supports people affected by leprosy in southern Myanmar to be able to access timely, affordable and effective treatment to cure their leprosy and prevent any disability from occurring or an existing disability from worsening. It also runs a self-care programme giving people affected by leprosy the skills they need to prevent further disability in the longer term. Through the project, people newly diagnosed with leprosy are assessed, treated and followed up to ensure that they are able to complete the course of multi-drug therapy. The hospital has recently begun providing reconstructive surgery for patients.
